"Pain is largely determined by the mind’s expectation of pain. Remove the expectation and you can often remove the pain."
Mark Manson, The Limits of Belief
Our minds are often the source of our reality but we defer ownership to external circumstances. When you start taking responsibility for how you feel, everything changes.

"You need to embrace the feeling of being stretched. Every time you feel that you’re being pulled into the unknown, or there’s too much to do, you need to smile and remember that this is what it feels like to be doing something big and meaningful."
Daniel Priestley, Entrepreneur Revolution
Often on the path towards something better, fear and anxiety are just signals we’re outside our comfort zone and that we need to master this new state.

"Before it is too late we must wake up and realize that real power and success can come only through mastering a process, which in turn depends on a foundation of discipline that we are constantly keeping sharp."
Robert Greene, The 50th Law
Mastery comes from refining not only your craft, but the skills required to be disciplined and methodical at it. True masters study the process and remind themselves how far they’ve come through that too.

“The number one thing most people are comfortable with is fear."
Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter

"Discipline builds mental endurance because when effort is your main priority, you stop looking for everything to be enjoyable."
David Goggins, Never Finished
Unless you’re applying some kind of discipline in any one area of life, you’re missing out. Engaging with life also means testing yourself to see what you’re capable of.

"Reality has its own power—you can turn your back on it, but it will find you in the end, and your inability to cope with it will be your ruin. Now is the time to stop drifting and wake up—to assess yourself, the people around you, and the direction in which you are headed in as cold and brutal a light as possible. Without fear."
Robert Greene, The 50th Law
Most people expect their reality to be shaped to their own needs and wants. It’s a rude awakening when you realize it doesn’t actually care. It just is. Ruthlessness is part of reality as much as it pleasure is, and you’ll need to match it with your energy or get left behind.
