Negative Capability is in the simplest ideas.
I’m a copywriter, and the gold is always in the Big Idea.
But what makes a Big Idea powerful, really?
It’s it’s simple nature.
A Big Idea is the underlying theme behind any piece of copy that works. It’s the emotional current that takes the reader along a journey.
What moves people is emotion, and at the root of every strong emotion is simplicity. The simpler the emotion, the less stuff the brain has to deal with to experience it.
But one thing we struggle with is embracing simplicity.
We think there’s always something more nuanced, more complex, more insightful behind the corner. Something we don’t know, yet.
What if we just dove into the simple ideas? The first principles that are at the foundation of every complex one.
If we just learn to love and use the simple ideas, we can be better and clearer thinkers. And more self reliant ones, too.
Negative Capability is being present and humble enough to know when a simple idea is all you need.
